Union is a passion for Diane Sedor. Soon after graduating from high school in Ohio in 1970, Sedor moved to Alaska, where she worked her first job as a retail clerk in Anchorage.
In 1977, her family, which now included two daughters, moved to Southern California.
In September 1980, Sedor worked part-time in Local 1428’s Benefits Department. Her job was made full-time in 1984.
She worked in the Benefits Department until 1991, when she was elected secretary treasurer. She served in that post until 1995, when she became executive assistant to the president.
In 2001, Sedor became secretary treasurer again, working with current President Connie M. Leyva.
Through her involvement with the UFCW Women’s Network, Sedor has conducted anti-Walmart campaigns, including Local 1428’s participation in the WakeUpWalmart.com campaign against the anti-union retailer. In addition, she serves as a trustee on the UFCW Drug and General Sales Trust Funds and is an alternate trustee on the UFCW Food Trust Fund.
She has served as a director on the board of the Rancho Federal Credit Union for the past five years.
Sedor believes union jobs enable people to live the American dream, own their own homes and provide health care and security to their families.
She enjoys spending time at Pismo Beach with her daughters and their families, which include six grandchildren. She is an avid fan of NASCAR.
